Press & News
Press & News Photography
News photography begins with a simple responsibility: be there when the moment happens.
Demonstrations, political events, public gatherings, breaking stories and the quieter moments surrounding them all demand the same thing — awareness, timing and the ability to recognise a photograph before the situation disappears.

Working Where Events Are Still Unfolding
Press photography is different from almost every other photographic discipline because the photographer rarely controls the circumstances.
The light may be difficult. Access may change. People move. Security barriers appear. A speech ends early. A crowd suddenly changes direction.
There is often no opportunity to repeat what has just happened.
That makes anticipation essential. A photographer needs to understand the situation while simultaneously watching what is happening at the edges of it.
The obvious photograph matters, but often the stronger image appears a few metres away: a reaction, a gesture, an expression or a detail that explains the atmosphere more effectively than the main stage.
My approach is therefore based on observation rather than intervention.
“News does not wait for perfect light, perfect access or a second attempt. The photograph has to be made while the story is still happening.”
Public Events
Political appearances, civic events, public figures, ceremonies and moments where the photograph must communicate both the subject and the atmosphere surrounding it.
Protest & Demonstration
Demonstrations are visually complex environments where signs, faces, police lines, movement and individual reactions can tell very different parts of the same story.
Breaking Moments
Situations that develop without a script require speed, awareness and the discipline to keep observing even after the first obvious photograph has been made.
FRAME
A Fraction of a Second Can Change the Story
Two photographs made seconds apart can communicate completely different interpretations of the same event.
Expression, body language, movement and context all matter. This is why press photography is not simply about pointing a camera toward something important.
It is about recognising the moment that explains what is happening.
Credibility Matters
The value of editorial photography depends on trust.
A news photograph should represent what was actually in front of the camera rather than manufacture a more dramatic version of events.
Composition, timing and visual judgement remain creative, but the underlying responsibility is documentary.
The photograph must remain credible.
Context Beyond the Photograph
A strong image still needs accurate information.
Locations, names, events and circumstances matter because editorial photography is part of a wider record.
Captions and context help transform an isolated frame into useful journalism.
The objective is not simply to make something visually interesting, but to create a photograph that can communicate responsibly.
London can change from ceremony to confrontation, celebration to protest, within a few streets. For a press photographer, that unpredictability is part of the work.
People
The individual reaction inside a large event can sometimes communicate more than the event itself.
Place
Architecture, streets, weather and surroundings establish where a story exists and give the photograph context.
Detail
A hand, a placard, an object or a small interaction can become the visual detail that makes a wider story understandable.
